‘We, all of us creatures, can feel when the new season is coming and it means the same thing in our bones to all of us…’

IN THE DARK DARK ROOM (2017) is a 12 minute film that forms part of the aural-visual installation of the same name.

The film explores what happens to the psyche when we are isolated in nature – what rituals, fears and desires take over?

IN THE DARK DARK ROOM (2017) was shot by Siouxzi Connor and Klaudia Domurat of Uferlos Studios in the dark winter of 2016 in the depths of an ancient Finnish forest – the site of a pagan bear cult. It was shot during an artist residency with Mustarinda and completed in Uferlos Studios in Berlin.

The work draws on the narrative and thematic elements from the novel Our Little Wooden House In The Forest: exploring ecology, ritual and female sexuality – elements recurring in Siouxzi’s previous work. The soundtrack was created by Klaudia and showcases her ability to create immersive aural worlds using sounds from nature amongst homages to her favourite artists. The work was featured by the BBC World Service: bbc.co.uk/programmes/p04px55v

12min soundscape by Klaudia Domurat

Described in an interview with the BBC World Service as a “symphony”, the work incorporates the sound design and voices by Klaudia Domurat and Siouxzi Connor, reading from the Our Little Wooden House In The Forest novel extracts that appear in the newly published book Little Houses, Big Forests (desire is no light thing) by Siouxzi Connor

COMPONENT 3
Exhibition (Artworks 1-9) featuring multi-dimensional collages by Siouxzi Connor & Klaudia Domurat including stills from the 16mm short horror film Jet Black, 35mm nature photography and text

Siouxzi and Klaudia use the three dimensional space within the frames of each of the nine plates to introduce all the elements of the collage – stills from the 16mm short horror film Jet Black, 35mm nature photography stills and text (extracts from Our Little Wooden House In The Forest appearing in Little Houses, Big Forests (desire is no light thing) and In the dark, dark room (2017) ).

The effect is one of experiencing multiple works of art simultaneously, within each case – the text and the visual elements interact sometimes in symbiosis sometimes in juxtaposition.
